COVID testing sites

Having had a look on t’internet it looks like there are 3 near us: Manchester, Alty and Rochdale. The first 2 are drive throughs so I assume you can’t go there without a car. Does that mean Stopfordians have to go to Rochdale if we haven’t got a car?

At the start of the ‘Pandemic’ a site was located and set up to accept visitors. However there wasn’t enough demand and it was shut down.
The location was just off Bird hall lane near Thales.

A friend of mine's partner is a nurse so they've both been tested regularly. They live on the Wirral and the first two times they had to drive a 30 mile and 40 mile round trip to the testing centre.

Have they shown symptoms several times then as I thought you only got a test if you showed symptoms ?

My wife’s a nurse and had major surgery last year putting her on the edge of the most at risk group.
She was tolls to stay at home at the outset and was quite ill, she quarantined herself from the rest of us for 2 weeks and my sons both self isolated from work (I’m retired). Everyone including medical staff/friends were convinced she had it but as she was away from work didn’t get a test.
After bout 10 weeks she was given the ok to return to work dependent on a negative test.
To everyone’s surprise it came back as her not having had it, actually made her a tad disappointed in a strange way as having gone brought everything you almost want to find you have the anti body.
Of course there is also the chance that the tests aren’t fully accurate.

Yeah, there was something the other day as well about the antibodies only remaining present for a few months too, so some people who had it in January time who are now getting the antibody test may have actually had it but the antibodies have gone.

Don't know how scientifically plausible that is, mind you.

Fact is that Covid 19 doesn't mean all other illnesses and diseases stop occurring 🤔 and I suppose many illnesses have similar indicators such as high temperature or coughing- medical diagnosis is typically by way of elimination as much as identification- it's a worry and no mistake that's for sure 😷🥺

You can order one on line I believe, you do it yourself and a courier picks it up. Not sure how useful that is though because I had to have one at the airport drive through site and it was like they were mining for gold from my lungs and sinuses. If, as I assume, that's the correct way to do it then I wouldn't have dreamed or dared to be that invasive if I was doing it to myself.

I have heard the same from someone's off here who had a pre-op Covid Test. No way they are being correctly self applied.

I had to be tested as I was due to start chemotherapy. The first test I did my self and inserted the swab only a short way into my nose and then rolled the other one round my cheeks. That came back positive but fortunately had no symptoms. I was already self isolating. I then had two further tests at Christie’s done by a nurse when I thought the swab was gonna come out the back of my head and the one in my throat mad me gag. They were done correctly and both came back negative!

So have I. It sounded really unpleasant.

I've also been sent a kit to conduct a test myself at home and I doubt they are being correctly self applied.

It's not nice at all. I was just expecting to have it twirled round my mouth so it was a bit of a shock when a soldier rammed it down my throat and then up my nose nearly as far as my forehead.

I had to have a test. I booked it on line had the test within the hour at the airport, employees car park and got the results within 36 hours. No queues drove straight in .
