LCB in a back 4 you can get away with having a right footer there, as we have in the past. Their role has an emphasis on defending and then playing a simple pass to a more creative player.
LCB in a back 3 requires the player in question to bring the ball out of defence to create overloads and put crosses into the box. That threat is completely nullified if they're constantly having to cut back onto their right foot.
Go and look at teams that play a back 3 with wing backs. 99% of the time they play a left footer there.
