Salford City are facing a long injury list going into a hectic festive football schedule, with multiple first-team players out of action.
Following the Ammies’ tough defeat to MK Dons at the Peninsula Stadium last weekend, manager Neil Wood revealed that the squad that day was already very thin.
Commenting on the Salford City injury list, he said: “We have had a tough season with injuries, this week has been tough we have had ten players training for four of the days.
“That was the only team we could have fielded so whether you’re playing well or bad at the moment you’re playing.”
Midfielder Elliot Watt was the latest to be sidelined, not being named in the matchday squad on Saturday.
The Ammies only named six substitutes in the matchday team, with all of them being academy players and loanee keeper Joe Wright.
Striker Callum Hendry has been out for more than two months now, picking up an injury in the 2-0 loss to Notts County on September 15.
Wood said in the post-match conference: “It’s not looking good at this stage. We’re just trying to get in and give him some support and get around him, but it’s quite swollen at the minute, so he’s going to need a scan, but he can’t have the scan for the next couple of days until that dies down.
“Hopefully by Monday we’ll have a bit of a clearer answer for him and and see where he is with that, but we’re obviously gutted for him.”
Ossama Ashley was also a victim of the Magpies’ defeat, and has not made an appearance since.
Winger Luke Bolton was sidelined in the second half of the 0-0 draw with Barrow and Luke Garbutt was forced off in the first half against Gillingham on Saturday November 18.
