The Co-op have tried to reduce the risk as much as we possibly can. In conjunction with the Bergara family, we commissioned a very talented artist who has a great portfolio. https://www.hannahstewartsculpture.co.uk/
We spoke with many sculptors, but felt Hannah could deliver the quality we were looking for, even if the budget had to be increased.
The family have been involved in the process from start to finish, and have made quite a few tweeks and adjustments as the clay was being finished, which I think have really helped capture Danny's character. Ellen (Danny's daughter) visited Hannah to sign off the final clay design and the family were very happy.
We've also held focus groups which have included Co-op members, artists who are County fans, the Club. The feedback we've got has all been very positive.
What stood out for me is the attention to detail that goes into the body and texture of fabrics. You can see this on the Lily Parr statue, which is on Hannah's website and is in the National Football Museum in Manchester.
I've seen the final clay and part of the statue when it was delivered and it looks good.
Everyone is going to have their own opinion, artwork is subjective, but really hope fans like the statue when it is unveiled and that we can honour Danny properly!
