Yes. I get what you say and why you say it but in the end the club is far more desperate for money than the sponsor is to sponsor. Some club FDs appreciate the phasing of sponsorhip money because it means the team manager cannot blow it all by September. Depending on the level and the club the sponsorship will be tied loosely or in detail to certain criteria. This definitely happens at County's level and it definitely happens at the top level.
So to go back to Dosser's post, he is right. Considering the 'future of football?' comment a little further we have not even begun to think how drab teams are sponsored as compared to higher division teams. In the PL and CL teams and sponsors get reports on the eqiuvalent value of their exposure - seconds visibile on TV, in the newspaper, etc. At the lower level sponsorship is more of a charitable gift with a likely equivalent value of less than the sponsor pays.
I have thought of even more holes in the idea but I am boring even myself now.
