Cheadle Heath Nomads aim to bring the curtain down on what has ultimately proved to be a hugely successful season, when Stockport Georgians make the short journey to The Heath on Saturday afternoon. Easter Monday’s 5-2 demolition of SK8 neighbours, Cheadle Town, continued Nomads sensational revival under manager Rory Fallon and, after facing the prospect of a serious relegation battle in late November, the Claret & Blues now have their eyes firmly set on a top eight finish. That is exactly the same target for a Georgians side who have enjoyed a fine first season in the North West Counties, following their promotion from the Manchester League in 2022. And, if the first meeting between two of Stockport’s oldest teams is anything to go by – the two clubs can boast 219 years history between them – then Saturday’s derby should be a cracker. Back in October, the Cromley Road clash finished 1-1 in front of a bumper attendance of almost 500, and Nomads are also hoping to set their biggest gate of the season on Saturday afternoon. With a well-stocked bar in the club house, plus hot and cold drinks and food served in the on-ground canteen, we urge all local football fans, especially County supporters not making the long trip to Gillingham, to come along and support a local grassroots football club, working hard for their immediate community. Kick-off time is 3pm, and everyone can be assured of a very warm welcome. |
