I doubt you do Bungle, but I’ll try to explain it for you.
I’ve been watching County over 40 years now. I’ve seen a number of people own and run the club from Dragan Lukic to Alan Kirk to Elwood and more. Jimmy MacGuigan was manager when I went to my first game. God knows how many other managers I’ve seen since then. You know what is the only thing that is consistent in that period? The fans. Me, you and everyone else here. Have you seen Elwood at EP recently? When was the last time you saw Spencer Fearn singing IO County in the Cheadle End?
These people are merely custodians of our club. OUR club, not theirs, for without us there is nothing but a bunch of blokes playing football (plus the ladies teams these days too).
My eldest lad is 11. His first ever County game was Crewe away when we got relegated from the league. He was 9 months old and doesn’t remember it. He has never known us as a league team. He and I will be County fans long after Rusk, Wilson et al have gone. So will you and many others here.
I want to see County succeed, of course, but I get truly angry when I see things that I think work against that and jeopardise our future. I don’t want our future mortgaged by our present again and I don’t want to see people’s egos put ahead of the good of the club.
I care deeply and passionately about this club. Why the hell would I spend time on here arguing the toss otherwise? We’ve all seen too many chancers and ego trippers around this club over the years and I am subsequently sceptical about anyone until they prove themselves.
I hope my scepticism is misplaced and that in another 40+ years my lad will still be able to go to EP and watch County, regardless of whatever league we are in and whoever owns us and manages us.
Mark Stott, Jim Gannon, Simon Rusk, etc are part of the ever shifting tides of our history and will all become just memories, but my son and all our sons and daughters will be our future. That is what is behind my posts.
