    Re: Rusks Speaks Archived Message

The last time I posted I said I was unsure at this stage of the season whether our shortcomings were down to the manager and his style of play or the players themselves. I now think it is both.
    The style of play:
Yeovil had our system of play and our weakness down our left hand side worked out very early on and exploited that.
We had no answer but to keep playing the same way. The introduction of Fryer at the back went some way to plugging the hole on our left side, but the system remained basically the same throughout the 90 minutes.
    The players:
Hinchliffe is not a great distributor of the ball and yet more and more emphasis was placed on him at the back as Yeovil pressed high. Not his finest hour.
Hogan continues to think he is better than he actually is. 2 appearances, 2 defeats.
Palmer played well until the penalty, but again, he is not a great passer of the ball, but he finds himself called upon to pass long or square.
Barclay was clearly uncomfortable on his left foot and doesn’t actually look good enough.
Southam-Hales played well but was kept in check well by Yeovil’s number 3. When he did get free his crossing was inaccurate.
Rooney went missing. Too deep and didn’t make himself available when he should have.
Raikhy gave the ball away almost every time he got it. But he rarely got the ball at all. Was made scapegoat for a poor first half team performance. Replacing him with Walker was not an improvement.
Croasdale was Croasdale. Passing it backwards and square even when he had time to turn.
Whitfield was busy without looking that dangerous. No end product.
Madden was truly awful. Didn’t win a header and gave the ball away a lot. Missed a one on one chance with their keeper.
Reid. Missed at least 2 great chances snatching at them. Lacking in confidence. Made lots of runs but never received the ball.
Walker continues to be unimpressive. Why we re-signed him is a mystery. Blazed the ball over the bar when opportunities presented themselves to him.
Fryers looked much more comfortable at the back than Barclay. A promising debut.
Dunnwald-Turan is a big lad. Hasn’t scored consistently in the past and continued with same form when he missed a one on one chance with their keeper.

All in all. Poor all round on and off the field.
