He asked me which team I supported - I had told him before - and when I confirmed his recollection, he told me about the football coach that used to visit their school in Birmingham. It was Alex Reid, and he was clearly appreciated with much affection by the boys. Apparently, when he left to go full time with County, many of the boys (including my little friend) voted with their feet and stopped going to the after-school football sessions.
