My neighbour played under Webster when aged around 19 now aged 73. These were his words after I sent him the link.
Such shame that his tenure at Hyde wasn't a success nor very successful. He came to watch me play for Oldhams batteries along with Pete O'Brien. Pete was injured and didn't play. I was asked did I want to come to Hyde to earn a few bob and as a long time supporter, from 10 years old, obviously said yes. I found he was more involved with his card table at the casino in Manchester. He rarely, to my memory, attended training.
Turned up for a match at Hyde at 2-45 for a 3-00 kick off. We were all sat in the dressing room not knowing the team and neither did the referee. He always screamed at anyone on the field if anything was wrong and affected players negatively rather than coaching them. That's why several, including me left. Never liked him and never will. Obviously he must have found himself at County and mellowed in later life without gambling. RIP Eric
