    Dear Member
For the struggling beer and pubs industry this latest lockdown is another blow, hot on the heels of a year of restrictions, curfews and forced closures.
This lockdown is necessary, but the Government’s latest plans appear to stop pubs selling beer and cider to take away and drink at home – but don’t stop supermarkets and off-licences doing the same.
Whilst we understand the need for the new restrictions, we want to make sure that the Government recognises the value of pubs to communities, individuals and the economy – and protects them so that they can re-open their doors once restrictions begin to be lifted.
That’s why we’re asking you to email your local MP to ask them to make sure pubs are treated fairly.

There is confusion about whether pubs can sell alcohol in sealed containers for people to take home. This was a real lifeline for many pubs in previous lockdowns. Without the ability to act as an off-licence this reduces income for pubs, reduces consumer choice and just helps big supermarkets which don’t face similar restrictions.
We also want to see a long-term, dedicated financial package for pubs, clubs and the brewers and cider makers that supply them. One-off lockdown grants are welcome – but they won’t be enough to meet fixed costs, help publicans make ends meet and protect pubs from facing permanent closure when there is no end in sight to restrictions.

When the need for lockdowns and severe restrictions is over, local pubs will be vital to the nation’s social and economic recovery – so long as they are still standing.
Please take a minute and use our template e-mail to get in touch with your local MP and ask them to speak up for saving pubs and breweries from permanent closure.
    Cheers,
    Nik Antona
