Exactly. Gannon's strengths have always been working with younger players, (allied to a couple of experienced old heads), and getting them bought into his philosophy.

What we have seen brought in is a collection of individually gifted players, no doubt about that, but they are journeymen - moving from one club to another with depressing regularity.

So there's Rooney, (8 clubs in 10 years); Maynard (7 in 10 years); Hogan, (same as Maynard); Bennett, (8 in 10); Williams, (5 in 5 years). Winners and promotions all over the place. But when these were signed I raised a metaphorical eyebrow as they didn't seem to me be "Gannon type" players - not in terms of skills but in approach.

I remain totally unconvinced that from what I have seen, and from some of the body language on the field, that they have bought into Gannon's style.

Now it may be argued that it is up to the manager to "get them to adapt". Pretty easy when you have youngsters, but experienced old pro's - I think not. Think back to Owen and then JG's experiences at Motherwell and Vale.

On the other board somebody said earlier tonight, in the midst of the debacle, that he would rather have the 2018/19 team in terms of attitude than this lot ... and in my view he was spot on.
