    Blue plaque? Archived Message

    I enjoy chewing the fat with County fans on here and whilst nattering with Ken Riley the other day about writing in the programme it had me later reminiscing.

    We’d sometimes receive the generous offer of an end of season free meal at the club for our efforts and on the one occasion that I actually turned up, after taking in the first half, I’d just took the head off my free pint in one of the posh rooms when I noticed that I could see out onto Hardcastle Street.

    Not one to miss out on an opportunity, I nipped out for a half-time gasper.
    I’d just lit up and was standing there uncomfortable in my Asda suit and County tie when this rather large bouncer type gentleman appeared and told me that I wasn’t getting back in!

    I apologised for popping out and mentioned that I didn’t know that there was a rule to the contrary and as nobody was there on the door to tell me I thought it’d be ok.

    “No...I’m sick of this keep happening” he replies.
    I mentioned that I was a season ticket holder in the Cheadle End and had never been in the sponsors lounge before.
    “Tough s***, you’re not coming in. You wouldn’t be allowed to do this at Old Trafford”
    I replied that I wouldn’t be seen dead there and the reason I was a County fan was because, I up until then thought, it was more friendly here.
    “You can’t smoke in the ******* ground!” he shouted.
    I pointed out that I wasn’t IN the ground, I was stood on Hardcastle Street.
    Bearing in mind as far as he was concerned I had paid good money to sponsor the club (I hadn’t) I was a bit p****d off!

    He wasn’t having any of it so I stepped away and phoned the then editor who sighed heavily then told me to use my season ticket for the second half of the match in The Cheadle End.
    There was nobody about at said Cheadle End so I just wandered in.
    I of course missed out on the free stuff but luckily got to see the second half.
    This has me thinking...
    I’ve been watching County for donkey’s years and have managed to be ejected from;

    The Paddock.
    (before they concreted it in)

    The year was 1979 v Doncaster...cobbed out for getting my specs broke by some Yorkshire Kn** head.

    Pop Side.
    (Cow Shed)

    ‘78 saw me going out head first versus Bradford (I just got caught up in it all. Somebody had set fire to a Bradford City scarf and I was stupidly caught holding a few charred strands aloft)

    Cheadle End.
    (when it was single tiered and had the original seats)

    1977...Mistaken identity for swearing. Arm up the back and frogmarched out by a biopic steward.

    Railway End.
    (railway sleepers still underfoot)

    Can’t remember the year...but it was Donny Rovers again. I somehow found myself slap in the middle of the famous ‘pincer movement’ which saw our rivals from over the bonk outsmarted and surrounded before legging it on the pitch.

    Can this be a record?
    Those who know me know I’d make a rubbish hoolie...I was just a bit daft.
    Apart from the ejection from the ‘directory bit‘ which was still a good while ago, most of my ‘mistormenors’ we’re set in a different, more violent era.

    But...I still think I qualify for the aforementioned plaque.
    It could be perhaps be scribed thus;

    ‘Philip Robinson
    Stockport’s daftest ****!‘
