The worst County team I have ever seen ... Archived Message

For the older fans cast your mind back to today in 1986. We lost 2-1 at home to Hereford on 3/11/86. The game marked the end of the mercifully short-lived reign of Jimmy Melia. He presided over 14 league games, and gathered the sum total of 6 points. Added to this was the 7 goal debacle at Maine Road against Wednesday. Relative to league status that was simply the worst County team I have ever seen, (and for me was even worse than the relegation outfit of 2011). My piece on 1986 looks at how the year started brightly under Les Chapman; the inexplicable decision to replace him with Melia; those dreadful 3 months; and the beginnings of a renaissance after Murphy's second coming.
