That’s a lovely story Zalby! When I was working in Cairo around April 1991, I was taken a couple of hours drive down the Nile Delta with fixer/ agents of my company to an amazing heavily guarded oasis. A large private mansion where a small number of guests were gathered for the weekend. One of the most charming elderly gentlemen I chatted with all afternoon round the pool I was introduced to as the (deposed )last King of Afghanistan. He’d flown in from Italy, He was around 76/77 and he told me he’d been to the North of England. We talked hours with a few others but I saw the same chaps photo many years later in the papers when he died. I’ll look out the photos now your story has reminded me.
