Yes! But to achieve a Prem of 18 and a Championship of 22 (I'm not saying this would be a bad thing) you'd need to "lose" a total of 4 teams from those 2 leagues. As the 3 leagues immediately below the Championship should all have 24 teams already, and assuming they stayed at that size even if L2 and National merged, there'd need to be expansion of the current National N & S to accommodate the "bulge" caused by those "extra" 4 teams. The team formerly known as Bury's vacant place would of course help here. In other words, a general shuffling downwards, meaning that you'd initially need to relegate more teams to achieve the desired result. If that happened, and the current number of clubs survived, IMHO this would have the effect of actually raising quality in the lower reaches of the pyramid... I suppose any reshuffle would ultimately depend on how many go bust, and at what level, and of course whether the surviving clubs would willingly accept the changes. I suspect they wouldn't, and they'd have to be imposed from above. So that's 2 reasons why I'm not holding my breath!
