Oh and the obsession with maximum efficiency, this idea that an empty bed is a waste of resources, needs to be done away with. People ideologically want 100% efficiency without any care for what that means about ebb and flows of illness and crises. It is vital that there is slack in the system. It is vital that hospitals have quiet periods. It shouldn’t be seen as a failing that there are periods of “idleness”. Because otherwise there is nowhere to go when the shit hits the fan.
And funding for mental health needs an enormous boost. When people are waiting over a year to receive any kind of care and go through multiple suicide attempts prior, something is fundamentally wrong.
