It will be a difficult decision for many CAMRA members, like me. Whatever you think of Tim Martin, JD Wetherspoon's has increased the offer of real ale and cider nationally. CAMRA has had a discount scheme in conjunction with this pubco for a few years now, with members being given 40 x 50p vouchers, so £20, which were divided quarterly, so 10 x 50p or £5 each quarter. Last year this was increased to 60 x 50p (so £30), but valid for 12 months being the only time constraint; in addition, other pub groups became part of the scheme. CAMRA did a major survey into membership a few years ago, and indeed a significant number of members said that they had joined because of the vouchers. My personal opinion? As much as JDW and Tim Martin have their faults, on balance I think they do more harm than good overall, and they do a great deal for promoting real ale.
