Sitting here in front of the box last night the missus got an email from her trust advising of more changes to ppe procedures due to shortage. They've been sending used single use gowns off to the laundry for nearly two weeks now. But many fall apart as not designed for washing never mind 70c wash required to hopefully decontaminate. Due to the extended shortage the new instructions from chief executive include using only one gown per 13 hour shift, so if they have a break or go to the toilet they must take off, hang up and then put back on contaminated gowns. This does not meet WHO, PHE, HSE or Royal College guidelines and risks further infections to staff. These are not gowns which "may" be contaminated, these are contaminated.
