This was a special day for me and a former County player, Ted Critchley. Ted played for County way back and signed for Everton in 1927. When the Cup tie was drawn, I contacted Everton about Ted and they made us guests for the day. We arrived and were met by Brian Labone, former player but then in charge of corporate. We met a lot of former players who were so keen to talk to Ted, because he set up a lot of goals for Dixie Dean, an Everton legend. We had drinks and a buffet meal then a tour of the dressing rooms, I was talking to Neville Southall and Kanchelkis, before walking down the tunnel and coming out onto the pitch. We had fantastic seats for the match, and obviously among the Everton Directors, but they didn't seem to mind when I cheered the County goals, probably because they knew I was with Ted. A great day and a great match that I will always cherish. Ted never stopped talking about it, right up to his passing a year later.
