It is disappointing, especially as we had applied for (and received) permissions from six different authorities and were ready to open entries.
Few reasons for this.
We would normally open entries in March / April and order medals in the next few weeks (they have a 3 month lead time from China). Furthermore sponsors haven't been able to commit, due to uncertainty covid 19 has caused to their businesses, which is a major problem for us, as the cost base for the Hatters Half is quite high (traffic management, St John's Ambulance, road closure costs, medals, etc).
Personally I don't think we will see any races go ahead this year, but that is my view. The lock down will be relaxed, but social distancing measures are going to have to remain in place until a vaccine is found - and distancing is impossible in a race.
We took the view that we would rather not take entry fees from runners, hence the early decision. Also the medals are a big cost, so it's best to avoid that too.
