While there are some songs that I find mournful and can't abide, there's another sort that make me blub but I love to hear. I'm a big fan of Kate Rusby, the Barnsley Nightingale, who my other half calls "that weary woman." Two of her songs, "Who Will Sing Me Lullabies" and "The Lark" are real tear jerkers but at the same time two of my all-time favourites. The first, written in the aftermath of the death of Davy Steele of The Battlefield Band, has become associated with the loss of our dog Jack somehow so it's especially poignant. The second she's done as a duet with Nic Jones who was badly injured in a car accident on his way home from a gig in Glossop many years ago so again it gets double maudlin points.
