Commercially in UK, much will depend on climate change.
Privately, I doubt we will see as much as we did during WW2 because our culture has changed and people are not as adaptable as we then were in terms of self-sufficiency. There may be a resurgence of allotments. We had one on Brinnington during WW2. Even though we lived on Turncroft Lane, we never found anything stolen. Some even kept poultry on their allotment and rarely did any go missing by human hands. We kept ours in the back garden.
The only downside in my memory was that appalling open trench toilet that we needed to use if caught short. The photo below is a much improved version on what there was on Brinnington allotments. That one didn't have a seat and only one sitting bar that was so far above the hole that as boys we felt a parachute was necessary in case we fell off.
