But no doubt if they paid redundancy that would have been taken into account for any furlough pay ? Surely it’s easier/best (in the circumstances) that if businesses are effectively snowballed that people are paid via one simple (?) scheme. I guess the only other thing that could have been looked at is some sort of profitability measure per employee , ie, above a certain lelvel or profit the business would have been required to pay the staff themselves.
One of our sons has been laid off on the furlough scheme, not a problem at the minute but he’s in the hospitality sector and the longer term worry is if the businesses like where he works (an independent business) will survive this or if the customers will return in sufficient numbers if they do.
