We wouldn’t, but none of us have spent our whole lives preparing to be in the position he’s in, which is leader of this country. And while the circumstances are extraordinary, the traits being asked of him (decisiveness, sound decision making, leadership, being a bastard if necessary) are quite ordinary for a senior leader. And for me he’s failed on all points.
Advice, asking people not to do stuff etc is definitely a first point of call, complete agree. But it’s not working. Seaside towns are packed, people were still boozing on Friday night, they are listening because there’s no recourse if they ignore him other than this abstract illness they think will never get them.
We need shutting down. Close everything except food shops (to be ran with much greater control, almost on a time-limited appointment basis) and medical facilities and have the skeleton infrastructure running that’s required for these services.
Everyone else, #### off home and if you’re caught outside without a proper reason, you’re fined £100. Just make it happen.
