my gut feeling is that they will try to keep everything running to the weekend, as that provides parents an extra day or two to sort out childcare etc, rather than everyone trying to sort things out at 4.00 this afternoon for tomorrow.
as well as the free school meals aspect, there's also the fact that a lot of alternate childcare would end up being provided by grandparents, the most vulnerable group, as well as the potential knock on effect on NHS workers etc. from not being able to go to work without childcare.
