I would imagine so - I buy so many light fittings for commercial offices and it is impossible to buy a fitting that is not manufactured in China - LED technology is fantastic for the environment comparable to previous technology - but these fittings designed for 10000 hours use last less than 1000 because of the drivers that power the LED's - Chinese crap, can you buy a replacement driver? No - you must buy a complete new fitting
I took the boat in to the dry dock yesterday - she is a sorry sight if honest but I just love her! She is having the Hull 'blacked' and an ultrasonic test of the hull for thickness, I am quite nervous as over plating the hull is a very expensive job and with the boat being 30 years old , well I am nervous, it is costing me well over a grand for the blacking, the hull survey and some minor welding, i really can't afford another 12 grand for over plating the hull
Anyway in to dry dock and water drains down and the welder who is doing other work for me as well as doing the blacking has a wander around and scrapes of all the old stuff and detritus and after an hour of this he says - if this was my boat I would be skipping up and down the road because their is little visible wear and boats 20 years younger are in worse condition - I wondered why and that maybe like me previous owners hadn't done much with her, no he says, this boat built in 1990 used British grade steel and it is far better quality than that used in the last 20 years, steel now used is from China and also Poland - far inferior and a less regulated industry The Chinese add Boron to their steel which weakens the welds - the American won't have it but of course we will because it is cheap and once we leave Europe the quality will get worse as the price gets less
Obviously i will see how the survey goes on Tuesday but it sounds like I might get lucky, and with my daughters wedding in Cyprus looking unlikely thanks to the Chinese we are already heavily out of pocket
