The fact that the flu kills so many is the very reason we need to try to prevent COVID-19 spreading as far. (Although, by the way, 650,000 is the top end estimate of global deaths, NOT the UK). Fatality rate from the flu is about 0.1% but from COVID-19 is around 3%. There is no immunity and no vaccine. So if as many people contract this as the flu then the number of deaths would be far higher. THAT is why these measures are being taken, to try to mitigate it as much as is now possible.
I have friends with “just” asthma who are concerned: COVID-19 immediately attacks the lungs. This sh1t is serious.
(And telling people “you’ll be fine” is daft. They might be but they can spread it to people who won’t be. I for one do not want to be responsible for killing my 85 year old neighbor).
