Good point HH. Reading the article again and googling about a bit... He didn't invent the technology, some other guys had done that and had some success with early versions of it at Derby then (via McLaren's move to Old Trafford) at United. At that early stage Wilson was appointed as one of Prozone's first consultants, and so he was instrumental in the widespread adoption of data analysis by Premier League Clubs as the technology developed. Wilson's own career after Prozone has taken in as we know from County's press release, Southampton, City, and Sunderland- and prior to all that he worked with Moyes at Preston. What strikes me about that career progression is: A- he clearly likes s challenge. None of those clubs was achieving to its potential when he joined. B- he is successful when he can work alongside a visionary and innovative sports coach with a guiding philosophy and long term plan, who, crucially, buys into the potential of data to enhance performance. So he worked effectively with Clive Woodward, Moyes, and of course Pep and his team- less so with Harry Redknapp (who mistrusted the technology) and with the various managers who followed Moyes through Sunderland's revolving door (none of whom were given time to implement a vision- that was his critique of SAFCs operation when he left). I think Jim fits the mould of the sort of manager and personality who this guy will work very effectively with. And if he's come to County at this point in our history, that's because he's heard from Stott on the long term vision, and is convinced he's serious.
