It's usually about how it's put across and dealt with.
To use another, frequently cited example, right wingers who engage are engaged with. Right wingers who don't want to engage bleat about not being allowed a view (whilst repeatedly expressing a view).
I've expressed criticism of JG over the years without ever feeling like I can't express that opinion, whilst knowing it's a minority view at times. I've also riled people on that (and other topics) because of how I've expressed myself - that's my responsibility to address.
None of us operates in isolation. It's down to all of us to engage properly as a result and undoubtedly some people overstep the mark at times (hence the need for our long-suffering mods). But I'm not really convinced that there is groupthink that results in people being stopped from expressing certain views as a matter of course.
