Even under Elwood we were never paying players 2-4 times the going rate for the level we were at. We paid competitive wages for the levels we were at but it was never artificially inflating wage demands for the leagues we were in. We built teams out of castoffs and young players not paying higher wages for first teamers from three divisions higher.
And no I don’t want Stott, or anyone else, to come in and pay silly money either. Give us a budget in the top 3 of the level we’re at and make a competitive side. Don’t blow everyone else out of the water paying double or triple our rivals. I’d still be a County fan if we did that but it wouldn’t feel anywhere near as good.
If you can’t see the difference between what we did the nineties and what Salford, Fylde, Crawley, Fleetwood (although Crawley and Fleetwood weren’t quite as brazen about it) then I really don’t know what to say to you.
