PR may introduce a new problem of being less stable than FPTP (which is hilarious given the last decade), but it solves the worst one which is that people arenít properly represented.
I will continue to bang this drum ad nauseam.
Scrap the Commons.
Scrap the Lords.
Replace both with two new chambers.
One elected along PR lines which is the primary legislative chamber, the replacement for the HoC.
The second chamber is also elected but closer to our current system of areas voting for a representative. These are elected by STV or AV ensuring people donít have to vote tactically. This is our replacement for the HoL and gives people a local link to the national stage.
Move both in to a new parliament building in the middle of the country. Convert Downing Street and the Palace of Westminster into housing and museums.
Reduce total number of members significantly from where we are now.
All of this would see more cross party compromise and allow people to actually vote for who they want to run the country rather than the least worst option of those they think might win.
At the end of the day how many people agree with everything in the party manifestos of those they vote for? And yet for the winning party they have carte blanche to implement all of it as if itís what everyone wants. Balanced coalitions allow for a much fairer representation of what the public elects.
