I'd accept the Greens standing didn't help either, no. And there is an argument that says any party deliberately standing down is attempted gerrymandering of the vote. But Ruth George is a Remainer. Any LD voter who voted for the LD candidate was helping to hand the Tories the key to the exit door. Clearly in this case it's moot, because the scale of defeat was so big High Peak is just a footnote, but people couldn;t have known that for certain at 7am yesterday.
I wouldn't expect many Remain Tories to vote for Labour in its present incarnation, in fairness.
