Mozzer, you are making the assumption that Lib Dem votes are transferable to Labour.
That is not necessarily the case. I know pro EU Tories that are very disillusioned and will vote Lib Dem, but never for Labour.
Guy Kiddey actually stood down in the High Peak - I placed pressure on him to do so. He was replaced by Dave Lomax (a local councillor) and the Lib Dem's didn't campaign heavily. Lomax was really a paper candidate.
The Green's stood down for Ruth George in 2017, but they stood this time and took 1,000 votes. Green votes to Labour are probably much more transferable. Greens standing really didn't help
I didn't see Labour standing down in Hazel Grove or Cheadle either.
The Tories have really split the centre / left / remain vote between many parties (Lab, LD, Green, etc). They've been united, as they always are and have crucified everyone
