Europe's on life-support, as a political cause. We're going out and it would be a massive waste of time, not to say counter-productive, to start fighting a GE on the basis of Europe. I genuinely do think that for all that is talked about the Corbyn-factor, which was undoubtedly important, a lot of pople have just thought they want shot of the whole Brexit thing. I don't undertand that myself, as I set out in my cliff-top Brexit bus analogy yesterday, but there it is: It was another signifciant factor. Get Brexit Done was a magnificent slogan in that regard, albeit one that fundamentally hides what that actually means, to the extent that it is imbecilic. Effectiveness was all that mattered though.
What is needed is a centre-left response at a domestic level to the havoc the Tories have and will continue wreak on our society. I seriously worry about where we might be in 5 years' time. There may be a time to fight to get back into the EU, but that time will not be the first GE after we've left.
