I think it's reasonable to start from a point where you understand their general world stance and funding. After all, that is generally what determines the conclusions they come to, rather than hard evidence.
I don't dismiss things out of hand - Tories have come up with things I've not dismissed despite the fact they are Tories - nor do I agree with all those who might be regarded as on my side of things.
