But I had a rotten front canine about six months back which then snapped. My NHS dentist put me on a list for a surgical removal but two weeks in and I'd had no date for the removal.
I've never been suicidal and I make no joke about saying that I'd stated to my wife that if there was no prospect of this tooth being sorted that I'd top myself. I was quite serious. It was 'all consuming' and 'all encompassing'.
Went to a private dentist who said he could remove it, but it would be £250. I would have paid £2,500 to have stopped the pain.
He gave me three injections of anaethetic and I could still feel the toothache just about cutting in. So he said he would "give it a go...but that if the pain became too much I was to raise my hand"...
He used his 'bradall' or whatever the #### they are those spikey things...and it was absolutely horrendous. I took it for about a second then he went for it and my arm shot up, whacked him in the face, his mask went flying across the room. But there was a huge crack and, where I thought it was the tooth snapping again, it was actually the tooth coming away from the ligaments holding it (the strongest ligaments in the human body apparently).
Take far more care of my teeth now. Never ever want to be there again.
Awful. If gout is anywhere near as bad then I can't sympathise with anyone enough.
