I'm all for a larger proportion of TV money trickling down from the Premier League but the EFL clubs will find it hard to convince the big boys that they are doing anything more than attracting more and more chancers to the game. Does the Fit and proper person test mean anything these days?
At any one time there are people previously banned from involvement in the game, those who see asset stripping as a professional occupation and convicted fraudsters who constantly deny everything about everything. The EFL and National League need to weedle out those involved for making a fast buck and then once they can tell the PL that our houses are in order the PL have less reason to not increase the payments.
I don't know whether Bury fans are preparing for a phoenix at the moment. Do their supporters see themselves as bigger than the actually are or is there an air of inevitability that someone will step in because they always seem to (except when they don't).
There needs to be some reality though. Darlington went through it as did others and they've had to dust themselves down, dry their eyes and rebuild as a phoenix. They are the proof that it's not the end of the world.
