I've been to City and United a few times over the last 2 seasons and there is a game if football going on, but it feels more like a tourist attraction.
The matchday 'experience" at City in particular is so slick (and I mean this both as a compliment and a condemnation in equal measure) it has a feel of "Disney Does Football" about it. Entering the Stadium feels like something special is about to happen. Then the game starts and despite some of the best football you are ever likely to see on the pitch the atmosphere is surreal, sshhh... It's like you've gone to petting zoo and the zookeeper's asked everyone to be quiet whilst the baby rhinos are being fed. A slight sense of awe, but then everyone just shuffles off home.
TBF to the United fans welcoming Lampard, I am okay with that, he is a proper legend of the game and has a real sense of decency about him; I felt the same when Ray Wilkins turned up at EP.
