There are more than. I'm a few players who I think should be okay, but let's take Palmer.
If we play 4 at the back, we need 2 players of at least Palmer's level to play every minute of every game which is simply fanciful, with injuries, suspensions and loss of form we need 4 centre halves, we have 1.
Ask yourself this, Palmer is out for 3 weeks, who takes his place?
If we play 3 at the back all season we'll probably need 5 'Palmers'
Jordan Keane comes the cry, yes he is of that standard, but he can't play there and in Midfield, if we decide he's better there, then we need go replace him in Midfield, and there is nobody anywhere his level to step in there at the club
Full backs are obviously a problem, Mininihan never lets us down, but again who replaces him?
Left back could be solved with Jackson, but he's 18 and relying on a kid in a man's league for 46 games is just plain daft.
Left midfield could also see Jackson but again he's 18 and he can't do both. Stephenson is a major blow, but we can't feel sorry for ourselvess, he has to be replaced.
Same applies at Right Midfield, I am a fan of Thomas, but who is going to challenge replace him?
Dimaio is good on the ball but offers nothing off it and won't score many goals, Osbourne is definitely good enough.
Up front is not good enough, at all. Both have some potential, but seriously, two forwards needed immediately.
It isn't that all the players are rubbish, they're not, it is that the balance and makeup of the squad is lightweight and there is virtually no challenge, and at the sharp end just not good enough.
