REMMEL’S DEBRECEN CRASH TO OPENING DAY HOME DEFEAT

New coach Gert Remmel saw his Debrecen side make a disappointing start to the OTP Bank Liga season with a 0-2 home defeat to Puskás Akadémia.

Forward Andras Nemeth scored twice in 17 first half minutes to secure the win, both goals with assists from Daniel Lukacs.

Debrecen go to Armenian capital Yerevan this week for Thursday’s second leg of their UEFA Conference League second round qualifier against Pyunik (means Phoenix). Debrecen lead 1-0 from the first leg.

Next league game is away to Ujpest – who also lost this weekend - on August 2.

PS: The Hungarian top flight is no longer the Fizz Liga. Fizz was the e-marketplace of OTP Bank but OTP has decided to cease Fizz’s operations after “growth lagged behind expectations”.
