I think everyone who has commented has given valid points, including Bungle.

Surely DC could have and should have started with LB, given his hat-trick and given the fact he would have most likely been substituted to save his legs? I can fully understand the reasons others have stated, though.

I do wonder whether DC had underestimated the threat of Port Vale? I think a lot of fans had, myself included. I'd said to a colleague at work that the game could be a potential banana skin, and so it sadly was, but I had expected us to win, nevertheless.
