I was wrong and I'm happy to admit that, although I stand by my justification that a standard loan deal doesn't make financial sense for the club and as soon as it does, it doesn't make financial sense for Villa. That's before getting into the idea of a permanent deal.
However, the deal that's been done has been done in a way that benefits all involved; Barry gets to play competitive football once fit, Villa will likely unburden themselves of some his wages during this period and County aren't paying a penny for him until he plays 45 minutes, which will be at least 6 weeks away as a minimum.
By the sounds of the quotes from DC and his interview, we were the only club willing to bring him in and help him get fit.
I'm very happy he's back and I'm hoping he gets fit to play a part; on his day, he's the best player in the division.
