I forgot the half time draw tickets were card only this season and mistakenly went to buy some only to discover the card readers weren't working so I could pay cash after all. A crowd of 9,000 plus last season would have seen the 1st prize being around the £1,000 mark but last night it was only £660. The Bolton match 1st prize was only £80 more. It could be argued that takings would have risen had the card readers worked but conversely there will have been cash payers like me who forgot it was card only now who were able to purchase last night. Accounting for the cost of managing the cash and bearing in mind season ticket holders who are on holiday in August but reported in the attendance figures I estimate the club/Community charity will be over £5,500 down on last season if this downward trend continues but probably more as we still have the crap weather to come when people won't bother standing in the cold and rain fiddling about with phones. You have to imagine a similar reduction in programme sales which will then be replaced by an e-zine because 'progress'. All of this leads me on to my grumble which is that news of the poor half-time draw prize money was passed on to the players by subs as they came out for the second half and depressed them to the extent they completely forgot how to play football.
