Yes but perhaps the more salient point is the inability of no-mark human beings who have been rescued by football to avoid a hapless plunge into a dark world of relentless crime when football is no longer their reason for existing.

Football can rightfully claim to have rescued numerous young scrotes from a life of inevitable crime who went on to live fruitful lives but I suspect the amount that descended into crime at the end of their career is considerably more.
