For what it’s worth I have criticised Bell here on more than one occasion as he simply doesn’t anticipate crosses and attacking situations naturally as a forward should. I didn’t think he was what we needed at Conference North level and I certainly don’t think he’s what we need now. Jim has seen more in him than I have.

However, I will always try to judge players on what I see in games. At Torquay he gave away the ball which led to their goal, but against Chesterfield he was blameless, in my eyes, for our defeat. He even scored his penalty unlike Rooney and Minihan.
