Of course some intervention is required, but I think they are going too far.
I think the furlough scheme should be more focussed by industry, which is prohibited from operating - retail, hospitality, sport, etc, rather than being broad brush. Many industries have still continued to operate.
What are these ridiculous restaurant vouchers scheme all about? The government need to realise that whilst some people (mainly small business owners) have been badly hit, a lot of people - even those on furlough, will have a lot of savings now, simply because there has been nothing to spend money on for the last 4 months.
Why is stamp duty being suspended?
Where are the major infrastructure projects, which will pay dividends for decades? That for me, is worth borrowing for, because you get the pay back.
Where is any attempt to make those on high incomes / with considerable assets cover some of the cost of this bail out?
If people want to go to pubs or restaurants they will do so based on their perceived risk of contracting covid. They don't need a meal voucher.
Generally speaking, I think Sunak has performed very well, but it's easy to spend money you don't have.
The difficult decisions will come when it has to be paid back. I actually think they will just leave the debt, because this isn't a Conservative government. They are just a populist rabble.
