I worked in a food packing place in Reddish in the summer of 85 and it put me off eating packed food for a very long time.
Not long ago it was the horse meat in frozen lasagnes etc. They do say that a tour of a sausage factory is enough to put you off sausages for life.
However, you may well be right about China being even worse.
