I'd lived virtually all my life in London until 2003, and used buses regularly, as do most people.
When I moved to Stockport, and started working in Altrincham, people looked at me as if I was crazy if I said I'd got the bus somewhere - buses seemed to be looked down on as something for only the elderly, destitute and school children. A massive surprise for me considering how buses were seen in London.
The big advantage of the proposed tram link to Stockport is that it would be a form of public transport the middle classes would consider using in large numbers, something that can't be said about the 192.
