But what does it matter as far as the booing goes? Whatever went on, it wasn't Gomez's decision to drop Sterling: it was Southgate's. And the senior players were also involved. I notice none of them were booed.

And as for what did go on, it was very probably a two-way thing to a point, because such things tend to be. It's who took it beyond the point of what was deemed acceptable which is important. No-one will know that, other than those involved. However, I think given how Southgate has handled it, I'm happy not give too much of a toss about that level of detail.
And FWIW I generally like Sterling (as far as caring about footballers who don't play for my club goes). He tends to annoy all the right people. So it's a shame this will probably feed into their old narratives about him.
